Named after RK Ashram
Rama Krishna Mission Ashram is a Hindu religious and spiritual organization which forms the core of a worldwide spiritual movement known as the Rama Krishna Movement or the Vedanta Movement. It was established before independence and continues its services here. The Beach area near this Ashram is widely and popularly known as R K Beach. Vizagites prefer identifying themselves as the owners of RK Beach. APSRTC that was transformed into Public Transport Corporation at present operates several inter-city buses to this Beach as the end point from several parts of Visakhapatnam city.
Pilgrimage Destination
The foundation of the Kali temple was, originally, a skeletal structure made of bamboo. The construction of this temple commenced in 1984. Tall pillars, domes and minarets welcome you into this temple as you set foot into its premises. It houses an office, living quarters for priests and a temple kitchen. Goddess Kali overlooks roaring waves of Bay of Bengal from this temple situated at RK Beach. This is a landmark in Vizag city for several mass gatherings and events that took place throughout the year. Kali temple entertains spiritual lovers as well as nature lovers in the form of scenic beauty of the sea, especially during sun rise.
Light House, Aquarium
Another landmark of city of destiny- Light-House that guides ships travelling through Bay of Bengal and the first light to be lighted in Vizag City that stands tall at RK Beach. Aquarium filled with a variety of fishes that attracts tourists from the city itself and other areas also falls in this area. Visakhapatnam airport is 18 km away from this area, train station 8 km and bus station distance is 5 km. Quotidian activities such as swimming, sunbathing, surfing and playing beach volleyball are some of the popular activities that can be seen here for passing time for tourists.
RK Beach. This is one of the Most Popular Beach in Visakhapatnam and gets its name from the Ramakrishna Mission ashram across the beach Road. Ramakrishna Beach (RK Beach) is one of the tourist attraction in Visakhapatnam City.
It is a great spot to spend time leisurely. This park is maintained by VMRDA. The Submarine Museum, Visakha museum, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, an aquarium, Kali Temple, statues of prominent personalities, road side restaurants and parks are added attractions of RK beach. The beach is best known for the INS Kursura Submarine Museum, which preserves the Kalvari class submarine. The war memorial called 'Victory at Sea' at the shore of the beach was constructed as homage to soldiers of the 1971 war.
RK beach is famous for family outings and it attracts large number of visitors. The beach is perfect for catching mesmerizing sunrises. While the Rama Krishna Beach is not safe for swimming, there are many attractions and activities to keep visitors busy. Offering various kinds of water activities to the travelers, the beach is popular for sunbathing, beach volleyball and wind as well as water surfing. Deep sea angling is another prominent activity, which is carried on traditional fishing boats. Andhra Pradesh Tourism offers boating from Fishing harbour here.
Visakha Utsav, the annual festival of the district always gives a greater importance to the RK Beach. Andhra University conducts special research projects at the beach to save the Sea Tortoises during their breeding seasons. |
